Oh Delicious Snack!

This, 凉皮 or 面皮, is one of my favorite street foods to eat. The noodles are chewy and the gluten is squishy. The sauce is just a little spicy with lots of sesame…. mmmmm….

Cambridge… the original one

March 26th, 2010 § Comments Off § permalink

Cambridge weather is unpredictable. It was sunny all day and then all of a sudden it was pouring. And then just as abruptly, it stopped.

I took a walk of the town and saw a few of the college grounds, including King’s College and Corpus Christi. And then I discovered the Grand Arcade – a small but well stocked mall.

I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect pair of creamy yellow shoes to go with my dark blue satin dress, and I came so close today. It was ever so slightly too big. And I was trying on the smallest pair there. Usually, 37 is my size, but not today…

a day at the range

Well, not a full day, but thanks to my advisor and a labmate, our security group had a fall outing over the weekend at the Chabot Gun Club in Oakland. My advisor gave us a quick tutorial for safety and operations and then we took turns firing with his gun. It was FUN. I didn’t expect to enjoy it quite so much… but I did. Overall, I think I did pretty well for my first time. The recoil surprised me every time, but my advisor gave us good instructions, so I managed to shoot fairly well. Most of my bullets hit the target, at least. I kept them for evidence that a lot of my bullets ended up close to the center, especially from 15 yards. ^_^

In case of zombie attack, I have a running chance!

acrobatics!

Today I got to see Cirque de Soleil: Corteo, courtesy of the MSR intern program. Awesome. Amazing acrobatics and amazing strength shown. These people, or at least the ones doing the tricks, are in top physical condition. I mean, there was one act where there was one man and one woman, both attached to two large ribbons… (think of the rings event in men’s gymnastics) and at one point, the woman holding on with her feet and her hands while holding the man up by her HAIR. And of course, there were the bits where they both held on with just one hand and did tricks. It was amazing, and a little creepy. (Costumes, story being told was that of a clown dreaming/witnessing his own funeral.)

Several other Davis students are here. Daniella, Chris, and Shubho. Yay for familiar faces! (although I never did interact with them much in Davis…)

Next week we’re going to have a banana splits ice cream social as our intern event.
