best line from orientation
Paraphrased, of course:
“We’re kind of Redmond-centric because, let’s face it, this is the Death Star.”

Today was a day for pastry and hot coffee. It was windy and raining miserably outside when I headed towards Pike’s Place Market. I ducked into the closest building and found Crepes De France, a very over-priced creperie near doughnut, ice cream, and hot dog stands. I resisted all temptations and settled for a crepe au chocolat, which was rolled up unceremoniously in a tube-like concoction. It was yummy, yes, but I didn’t think it was any better than the crepes at Crepes Voila just a few steps from my apartment, or even the Japanese style crepes from the international district. It could not compete with either of the latter creperies in aesthetics either. Sad.
My next stop was Le Panier, after wandering through and buying a bag of cajun spiced almonds and ranch covered hazelnuts. Le Panier had impressed me last time with its very reasonable prices for delicious, freshly baked bread and awesome cappuccino. I got Le Piaf last time, which was studded with poppy seeds. This time I opted for a smaller version of the baguette, a ficelle. I also got one of their flaky pastries filled with bacon, potato, and cheese called Dauphinois with a hot cup of coffee. Next time I’ll have to try the other stuff and of course, one of the pain au chocolat that are always calling out to me.
Still not satisfied, I headed back to Piroshky, Piroshky for, quite predictably, a piroshky. I chose the bavarian sausage one, as they were out of ham, cheese, and spinach. It was delicious and hot and buttery and flaky. Mmmm…
What next at the Market? There’s a Greek food place which smells absolutely amazing every time I pass by. There’s another French place that sells beignets! And I think, when I go on the next sunny weekend, I will have to get some of those sausages.
I also got my Seattle Public Library card today. I love the library’s yellow-ish green elevators! It also has ridiculously soft, comfortable seats which look like they’re made of stone until you sit. Ooh, and a cafe on the floor with all the fiction! One of the featured displays was recommendations of historical fiction focussing on royalty. Happy, I was.
I was walking along 5th street from the international district towards downtown and saw parking enforcement police on segways. Guess the security guards at Palo Alto’s Stanford Shopping Center aren’t so special anymore…
Well, I’ve “moved” to Seattle temporarily. Wooo. I live right next to the convention center, so I’m planning on having many many crepes during my time here.
Current plans for tomorrow include visiting the International District which is really more of an Asian District to sample the no doubt awesome food.
