Fun Fun Grindhouse

I have this desire to code something magnificent and super useful in Python… like a huuuge library of parsers and sql query interfaces, just so i don’t go searching through all my code for that one stupid script every time. I have a lot written already, but it’s not general enough and not really organized or documented well. (That’s the catch with scripting languages… you tend to write scripts on a spur of the moment thing and at that moment you know exactly what you’re doing and what all the abbreviations mean.)

I am thoroughly addicted to Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and Warioware for the DS. ^_^ There’s this Puzzle Quest game which is lame but not… It’s really stupid in the sense that you’re a knight and you cast spells or do knightly things and “battle” and accept “quests” but all it really comes down to is game after game of match-three in the guise of role playing. Stupid, is what I think… but I like the match-three games. I’m also suspecting that Hotel Dusk is going to be quite addictive. I love the style of artwork they use!!

Watched Grindhouse with the usual group. It was so thoroughly enjoyable, though Planet Terror did have some pretty disgusting scenes. Still, the two movies were more funny and witty than scary or exciting. I liked Planet Terror much more than Death Proof. How could I not? Zombie movies trump car scenes. The fake trailers they made were sooo funny. Now each time I say “Don’t” I’m reminded of that movie trailer. The soundtrack was pretty good too.

Saw the trailer for the 3rd Pirates of the Caribbean. Am I excited? OH YES. Who am I rooting for? Norrington, even though he did prove himself to be a bit of an ass in the last movie, Barbossa, because I like him and his monkey, Davy Jones, because Bill Nighy is one of my favorite actors, and of course, Jack, because it’s the sort of movie where you just have to root for the very flawed hero. I also like Jonathan Pryce, but his character is rather lackluster and hard to really like.

picnic in the rain

Picnic Day was soggy. It rained, poured, drizzled, stopped, poured, etc. Met up w/Jim, Mike, and Ryan to see the parade because Tim was marching in it (Hiroshi too, only we didn’t know it at the time). Tim requested pictures of him with his Dutch flag, so I was all ready with my camera. Got some nice photos. ^_^ Then we went back to the lab. Jim brought two of his kids, so they were super cute. Tim returned, after changing into dry clothes (they were all marching in the rain) and we all went off to see some of the animal exhibits. Rain SUCKS. Tried to eat, but all the food vendors were scared off by rain… so we went to downtown for the greasiest meal in the history of my time here at Davis: London Fish and Chips. Yummy, of course, but everything we ate was deep fried.

So… good company, horrible weather.

It’s back!

Ok, so Scrump.net had a little hiccup in which my honeyblogs are still getting a lot of traffic from spammers, so there were a lot of PHP & MySQL ops that took up a lot of computing power and the hosting site didn’t like that. Blah blah. Hopefully that’s all resolved.

Hmm… Life is pretty mundane, otherwise. Getting a lot more sleep this quarter. Crypto’s w/Rogaway’s pretty interesting. So…. that’s all, for now.
