the “new” nerd!

This is a thorough guide to picking up girls in computer labs. (Assuming, of course, that there are girls there. A quick peak into Kemper’s basement labs show maybe 2 - 3 girls on average. Paltry. Pathetic, compared to Wellesley. ^_~ I personally shun computer labs, as I prefer my own customized lappytop and all its frills. More importantly, I am a loyal and permanent resident of the Grad Cave.) Hilarious. There’s mention of Facebook. hehehehehe.

Back to work!

A quote & other fun things

Harry Potter was fun to watch.
( A funny quote & my longwinded opinions )

I saw a trailer for a really, unbelievably adorable movie that I absolutely MUST see when it comes out next year: Happy Feet.

Tony, Jeff, Connie & Daniel came over to my apartment for dinner afterwards. That was a lot of fun. I cooked and no one died (yet). ^^;; Tony tried some duck egg (皮蛋) and uh… obviously isn’t used to it. This scared Connie and Daniel who refused to try it. Jeff, however, despite being a frozen banana, ate it without cringing. Ah, I think that’s the inner fob trying to come out. :-P I am, of course, carrying out my duties as faithful ambassador of My Sassy Girl and Battle Royale. We all watched My Sassy Girl. Hehehehe. Next time - Battle Royale!

bored. can you tell?

No, Vaio, No!! Why do you do stuff like this?? If it’s for charity, at least make the lappytops somewhat desirable to own!

Harry Potter tonight!! You’ll hear my opinions later. I also want to see Pride and Prejudice, because it’s Pride and Prejudice… but from the trailers, I’m afraid that it’s butchered the book. Sigh. So perhaps I shall be patient and watch it when it comes out on DVD.

is november over yet?

Last night’s little trip to IHOPs was a lovely ending to an otherwise horrid Friday night. Tony and I were in the Grad Cave, working on our architecture project (See how architecture’s always making my life horrid?) along with Jim, Conny, and Daniel. We called it quits around 10-ish and decided to go to dinner, but it turns out that lots of places close by 10pm in Davis. So… we decided on IHOP. We must have sat there for like… 3 hours just chatting. It was great… and out of it came many quotes, but the most striking by far was:
“I’m not going to drink pus out of a dead leper.”

Context? You don’t need context.

Today was another day spent in the grad cave working on… what else? Architecture. Nightmare. NIGHTMARE. I was planning on going to San Francisco, but I couldn’t, because I couldn’t get out of the grad cave. BOO. BOOO!!! However, there was one lovely thing - I went to Farmer’s Market and got some of the most DELICIOUS pears EVER. And some corn and raspberries & strawberries. Mmmm…. I love the Farmer’s Market!! I hope pomegrantes are in season for a lot longer. and the same with persimmons.

oh what a day…

Today Nick Weaver came to speak about worms. (The bad electronic ones.) It was a pretty cool talk. I especially liked the bits that worked in military tactics… at one point I was tempted to ask, “What happened to turn the other cheek?” when “retribution!” kept coming up. (Not because I’d actually do that, but simply because I wanted to be silly.)

There was an idyllic hour or so in the afternoon, when I went to the farmer’s market with Jim & Tony. I bought some fresh fruit because I don’t want to die of malnutrition (or get fat.) It was so nice to eat outside, staring at a fountain, and chatting with friends… and then to bike back in the perfect weather.

Too bad it was biking back to architecture review… but even then, there were lots of fun moments when everyone gathered in the grad cave.

focus, focus!!!

gah! i can’t focus right now! GAH!!! Must FINISH READING!

Instead of complaining about all the stuff that’s not so great… I’m going to be positive today. (And wow, it’s a non-depressing post after midnight!)

You know what I love about life in general? All the little things. The grad cave, for instance… TGIF: the lure of free food bringing all the older grad students out of hiding to socialize… and I like how the sky looks before sunset. You know, before it’s red, before it’s turning dark… there’s this golden grayish tint where the clouds and the sun meet. It’s so gorgeous. I wish I could project mental images and make them into real photos. (Kinda like that evil girl in the Ring. hahah.) I like how Davis gets cool at night, no matter how hot it was during the day.

Ok. Enough. Focus, Yuan, Focus.

oh blah, incoherency

People like this make me feel so incompetent. There’s the whole, “everyone’s different. You can’t compare yourself to them” thing but god damn it, you do compare yourself to these extraordinary cases and wonder why the hell they’re so special and you’re so ordinary.

Colorado this weekend!!! ^_^ I am SO excited.

And I have my fingers crossed for January… It could be the best January ever!!!

lyrics: After One Year

I absolutely ADORE this song by Brown Eyes… a k-pop duo. This song was later translated and sung by Evonne, a taiwanese singer. So, what I like most about this song is that bit “I believe in you… I believe in your mind.” You know, maybe they don’t know English all that well, but god damn it, “I believe in your mind” sounds a BILLION times better than “I believe in your heart.” I guess it’s the feminist in me rising up to note smugly that the character singing this is expecting reason, not emotion, from the female character. YEAH!

( lyrics that i don't understand except for the two lines of english )

of mice and men

Singing mice!! Now, if only humans had to make singing a part of the courtship process… ^^;; well, perhaps this persistent occurence of males singing as part of the courtship in nature is reponsible for the human female’s propensity to swooooon over musical guys. Unless they suck. And that’s where natural selection comes in… the musically fit can garner more attention, and therefore has a better chance of passing on his musically fit genes. The musically deficient should therefore be bred out… but because the female, whose musical-ness is not important, may be musically unfit, she may pass those genes on to the next musically deficient male or female. Oh alas, the cycle continues and we have bad music out in the world.
