on a whim…

much of my walls are bare again. on a whim, i took down every poster, every photo, every postcard i’d sticky-tacked up there. i left only the tack board & the wall directly above that… and the 4 b&w photos above my fridge. i need to get one of those tubey things to put the posters in. my room is a mess. i still have the big thing of books i need to ship home… but it’s too heavy for me to carry. boo. i have so much junk.

i bought a class ring yesterday… $450 for a white gold 14k ring with an antique finish. (i don’t like how gold looks… dunno why. i’ve just always liked silver better) eesh. i feel mildly guilty for that indulgence, as i can’t really justify why i need it.

my trashcan is filled with used tissues. how many trees have i inadvertently killed this week?

i’ve discovered how much i like the song.. “Tu es partout” sung by Edith Piaf. I’ll post the lyrics some other time.

AA Month craaaaziness :)

*koooooff* so i feel like i’m hacking out my lungs. and everything’s causing headaches. ewwwwwwwww…

i’ve discovered a new addiction: streamingsoundtracks.com

March 4th, performing at Schneider (Wellesley’s current student center) will be… lots of cool bands… including Ken Oak, Vudoo Soul (Chris Vu from the MIT Logs), Manisha Shahane, PK, Melissa Li (She’s realllllly awesome) Oh. did i mention that this is FREE and OPEN to the PUBLIC?

and until March 1st, there’s a buddhist mandala created by nuns from Nepal at Davis Museum. They’ll dismantle it on March 1st and proceed to Lake Waban (yeah? didn’t you know we have a lake here?) so… it’s def. once in a lifetime!!

ecaaaaaaaasu & shopping

well. ecaasu was great… maybe i’ll post pics later. my favorite one is of me, janet, and sarah with courtney looking like she’s yelling at jason in the background. hehehe.

went shopping today w/ruuuuue, who’s turning 21 soon (all my friends are turning 21!!) even though she’s really turning 4 and 1/4. hehe. bought a sweater from H&M… i think that’s the first time i’ve found something that i really liked there that actually fits and doesn’t look too odd. and a white cami from express. i liked their lace camis from last season better… but this one’s cute too.

yes shang, that’s the charlene i was telling you about!! :) it’s a small world

oh… and i just upgraded to wordpress 1.5 so it might be a while i redo the template stuff. (haaa… watch it never change) it’s an entirely new system for templates and i’m quite excited…

updates!

a few thoughts.

  1. my last semester is not the easy semester i was dreaming of. *shrug* Crypto (6.875J) is truly scaring me. and i really hate getting up at 7:30. no class so far has been this hard. man… randy’s crypto class wasn’t half as difficult.
  2. i met ron rivest! thanks to lyn, who introduced himself and me (i would never had had the guts to introduce myself to people like that) and my crypto prof is silvio micali. so much genius concentrated in that one school… somehow, it seems unfair. and it makes me regret not taking that network security course last semester! if only i’d looked at the course catalog earlier…
  3. i am going to examine electronic voting systems for my independent study. this interest in e-voting is responsible for me attending a 5 or 6 hour long forum about it. i never really thought of the policy stuff behind it. it was kinda cool to see tech meets policy meets lawyers in what i felt as a bastion of liberalism. and of course… seeing rebecca mercuri, ron rivest (does that make me a weird science groupie type? because much of my motivation for attending came from a desire just to see those people speak?), and others speak was rather cool… the intro to crypto presentation was _really_ good. the california policy guy had a very compelling speech and i liked it very much. all in all, a very riveting afternoon. weee!
  4. i got my alum.wellesley.edu email address.
  5. still feeling overwhelmingly relieved that i got in somewhere. for a while i was convinced that i wouldn’t have anywhere to go… and i mean ANYWHERE.
  6. i’m going to california on march 4th and coming back on march 6th. campus visit :-D it means, alas, no dyke ball, and no ken oak concert.
  7. ecaasu is this weekend. crossing my fingers that it will be worth my time. i feel as if all the novel topics have been exhausted… but this is my last year, so i guess… why not?
  8. i think i’m working on BITSA. which strange because 1) i’m not taiwanese. 2) i probably won’t be around the boston area next year… unless a miracle occurs, but why not? one last conference in the AA world. grad students don’t usually do much w/aa stuff, do they?
  9. is it just me, or does time seem to be flying by?

a v-day thing

found this on danchai’s xanga… not the best written thing, not the most eloquent, but i thought it was sweet, and i think everyone feels like this at some point.

As you travel day by day
Along your earthly way
Of the faces that you see
Love Me.

On the dark and stormy plain,
In the wind and sleet and rain,
Not a friendly house or tree,
Just Me.

I know you could do better
If you shopped around.
I’m just an old dead letter
Waiting in the lost and found.

I’m not smart or debonair,
Not the answer to a prayer,
But here’s my simple plea:

O darling,
My darling,
Love Me.

nearly midnight reflections

i am in hermit mode. When are you not? you may ask. good question… the start of my final semester here’s been rather nice. not very stressful academically, yet. that’ll change soon enough. i’m determined to enjoy my last semester though. tonight’s all house was… blah. when they outlined the guest policy, “you cannot have a guest in your room for more than 3 nights” i smirked. mostly because anita looked at me accusingly.

i’m eating without cessation tonight. it’s odd. i’m not hungry these days. but i eat anyway. and today i’ve been munching munching munching. and it’s rather gross because it’s all junk food. except for the apple with peanut butter, which was surprisingly good. mmm… and i’m running out of seaweed. doh.
